Dr. Soon has been a specialist in Endocrinology for more than 20 years. He previously served as a senior consultant and the head of the Department of Endocrinology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) from 2004 to 2008. Additionally, he contributed as a committee member of the Specialist Trainee Committee of Endocrinology, Singapore from 1999 to 2008.
After completing his post-basic medical training in Internal Medicine in 1991, Dr. Soon pursued advanced medicine training in Endocrinology. In 1994, he was accepted for a clinical fellowship at the Oxford Diabetes Center at Radcliffe Infirmary, UK, where he trained for one and a half years. During this time, he completed a project on the insulin profile of Glargine in healthy volunteers using 24-hour Euglycaemic Clamps.
Dr. Soon established and led the Department of Endocrinology at TTSH in 2004 until he transitioned to private practice in October 2008. His contributions extend to roles such as an examiner for PACES (MRCP part 2), Master of Family Medicine, and MBBS. He also served as a member and examiner of the Specialist Training Committee in Endocrinology from 1999 to 2008.
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Soon has been active in multicenter clinical drug trials, focusing on new treatments for diabetes and hyperlipidemia. His leadership earned him numerous accolades, including the NHG Service Champion Award (2002), Star Excellent Service Award (2003), and Silver Excellent Service Award (2006).
Dr. Soon continues to share his expertise through examinations and conferences. In 2010, he served as an external examiner for the Internal Medicine Specialist Training Committee’s exit examination and participated in the Master of Medicine (Family Medicine) Examination. He was also a keynote speaker at the 1st Singapore Health & Biomedical Congress.
